This is the story of a street - one that has delusions of grandeur about being the longest in the world, but one that is far from tiny. In Part 1, we followed Yonge as it divided Toronto into east and west. Now we take it north of Steeles into the georgaphically much larger York Region. A Journey Down Yonge St., part 1: Toronto

They call Yonge St. the longest street in the world. It most assuredly is no such thing, but they call it that anyway, where 'they' means the Toronto tourist board.

It is still a long street, though. Longer than, say, the one I live on. Longer than I'd like to walk in order to catch the bus. The intrepid Google Maps car was able to follow it 57.3 km from the shore of Lake Ontario to East Gwillimbury. Here, we retrace that journey, by necessity in two parts. This instalment keeps us within the City of Toronto, from Lakeshore to Steeles...
